Lindsey and Cully at the Pratt & McCabe booth

Our Story

We’re Lindsey and Cully, two lifelong makers who found each other.

More about Lindsey

Lindsey has been building things for as long as she can remember. When she was a kid, her dad had to hide his tools because she kept borrowing them for her own projects. She grew into the person everyone called for parade floats, theater props and costumes, and for a while she designed and sold her own handbags in boutiques. Whatever the medium, she’s always been passionate about whatever she’s making. Along the way she also worked as a licensed cosmetologist. Seeing the long ingredient lists in the products she used every day got her experimenting at home, and for years she made her own scrubs, oils and dry shampoo for personal use.

More about Cully

Cully grew up on job sites, helping his dad, a general contractor. His family often lived in whichever house they were remodeling, so building is second nature to him. Today he has his own general contractor’s license. He’s also painted murals for people his whole life. Cully served 8.5 years in the Army and 18 years in law enforcement. While he worked at the Sheriff’s Office, Cully had a side gig making “dump trays,” reclaimed wood trays with custom designs, and he also hosted paint and sip parties.

A family renovation project brought us to San Juan Island for what was supposed to be a short stay. It turned into more opportunities, and eventually we became part of the community.

These days we design and build together. Lindsey leads the design and the details, and we both pick up the tools, but Cully does all the heavy lifting. Our construction and renovation work keeps us busy with everything from guest houses to custom builds and creative built-ins around the island. We prefer projects with fun character and maybe a little whimsy.

The skincare started with a simple question. Lindsey had been using tallow on her face for a while when she asked the folks at Cully’s brother’s farm what they were doing with their suet. They told her they had a freezer full of it. So she got to work learning to render it and making products for friends and family. Soon friends of friends were asking too.

Lindsey spent the next two years reworking formulas and studying and sourcing ingredients, while the two of us worked hard on perfecting our rendering process. Every batch is still rendered slowly by hand until it’s pure, then blended into small-batch Whips, balms and oils at home. It’s a lot of work, and we wouldn’t do it any other way.

We’re keeping Pratt & McCabe small and handmade. We have sewn and crafted pieces on the way and hope to someday make room for other island makers too.

Thanks for being here.
